Spitzer Spare Parts – Essential Stock List for Workshops

Service and repair of silo trailers and specialist semi-trailers

In Brief

Spitzer spare parts – the top 10 items worth keeping in stock or ordering in advance: aeration pads (by model and chamber), EPDM hatch seals, DN100/DN125 shut-off valves, 50-bar pressure hoses, discharge slide valves, air filters, flange gaskets, MOP safety valves, Camlock quick couplings, and hatch bolts. Always order by model, year of manufacture, and serial number. PHS Magnum Chorula delivers parts to Poland, Germany, Czech Republic, and Slovakia.

Why Keeping a Parts Buffer Pays Off

A silo trailer sitting in a workshop means lost revenue. The trailer is not carrying cargo, the driver is waiting, and the end customer is on the phone. Every day of vehicle downtime represents a real cost: driver wages, depreciation, and lost freight.

The reality is that 80% of repairs come down to 10–15 types of spare part. Transport companies with fleets of five or more Spitzer silo trailers that keep a minimal buffer of these parts in stock routinely cut downtime on standard failures from 3–5 days (waiting for delivery) to just a few hours.

This article is a practical list of those parts — with an explanation of why each one earns its place.

Top 10 Most Frequently Replaced Spitzer Parts

1. Aeration Pads (by Model and Chamber)

Why first on the list? Aeration pads are the heart of the discharge system. Without functioning pads, the trailer cannot fully discharge its material — or cannot discharge at all. Service life: 1–6 years depending on the cargo.

What to order:

  • Aeration pads for Spitzer silo trailers — size depends on chamber position (front/middle/rear)
  • Fabric material matched to the cargo: PES (PE/PP granulate, flour), PA (fly ash, talc), food-grade silicone (foodstuffs), PTFE (chemicals)
  • Complete set of clamping strips and fixing bolts

Minimum stock for a fleet: 1 complete pad set per model for every 5 trailers.

2. EPDM Upper Hatch Seals

Why it matters? The hatch seal is the only barrier between the interior of a pressurised tank and the atmosphere. It ages faster than steel — UV exposure, temperature cycling, and contact with bulk materials all take their toll.

What to order:

  • Flat EPDM gasket for circular hatches (DN400–DN500 — check the model)
  • Profiled seal for oval hatches (selected configurations)
  • ND50 and ND60 profiles for smaller inspection hatches

Signs it needs replacing: thickness reduced below 30% of the original; visible cracks; tank fails to hold pressure when all other components are sound.

3. DN100 and DN125 Shut-Off Valves

Why it matters? Butterfly valves in the distribution manifold control airflow to individual chambers. Stem corrosion and seat damage are the most common failures after 5–8 years of service.

What to order:

  • DN100 butterfly valve (standard for smaller capacities)
  • DN125 butterfly valve (larger capacities)
  • Repair kits (stem seals, bushings) as a more cost-effective option where the seat is undamaged

Note: Valves must be rated for a minimum of 1.5× the tank MOP.

4. High-Pressure Hoses

Why it matters? Hoses connecting the manifold to the bottom valves and discharge pipeline operate under vibration, heat, and pressure. Service life: 3–5 years.

What to order:

  • Reinforced rubber hose DN50–DN80, minimum test pressure 50 bar (lengths 0.5–2.0 m)
  • Flexible hose DN100–DN125 with DIN flange fittings
  • Stainless steel clamps and bands

Stock recommendation: 2–3 lengths of DN50 and DN80 hose per workshop. These are the most frequently damaged by abrasion against the undercarriage.

5. Discharge Slide Valves (Bottom Valves)

Why it matters? The discharge slide valve opens the passage between the tank chamber and the discharge pipeline. Seizure, corrosion, and seat seal damage are typical after 200–300 operating cycles per year.

What to order:

  • Complete slide valve for the specific model (specify position: front/middle/rear)
  • Slide valve repair kit: seals, sliding rings, unions
  • Control levers and Bowden cables (for mechanically operated systems)

6. Air Filters (Filter Elements)

Why it matters? A clogged filter restricts airflow, overloads the compressor, and shortens its service life. Replacing a filter element is far cheaper than overhauling a compressor.

What to order:

  • Filter element for the oil filter on PTO-driven systems (size depends on compressor manufacturer)
  • Oil/water separator filter (for autonomous compressor units)
  • Fine air filter element for the tank (where fitted)

Service interval: Every 50,000 km or 12 months; for dusty cargoes (flour, fly ash) reduce to 30,000 km.

7. DN100–DN200 Flange Gaskets

Why it matters? Every flanged joint — discharge pipeline, manifold, valves — has a gasket. When dismantling for repair or inspection, the gasket is always replaced. Refitting a used gasket is bad practice.

What to order:

  • Flat EPDM gasket DN100 PN16
  • Flat EPDM gasket DN125 PN16
  • Flat EPDM gasket DN150 PN16
  • DN200 gasket for the tank flange (less frequent, but mandatory at TDT inspection)

Stock recommendation: 5 of each size — minimal cost, priceless availability.

8. MOP Safety Valves

Why it matters? The safety valve (MOP — Maximum Operating Pressure) protects the tank from over-pressurisation. It is a certified component — once it has activated, it must be replaced or recertified.

What to order:

  • MOP valve set to approximately 2.0–2.2 bar (standard for Spitzer silo trailers)
  • MOP valves carry a certification expiry date — check this at every annual inspection

Note: A MOP safety valve fitted to a silo trailer is subject to TDT (Technical Transport Supervision) requirements — replacement must be recorded in the tank inspection register.

9. Camlock Quick Couplings

Why it matters? Camlock quick couplings DN50–DN80 connect the trailer’s discharge hose to the silo’s loading connection. They are heavily used — rubber seals wear out after a matter of months.

What to order:

  • Camlock Type C coupling (plug with arms) DN50 and DN80 (aluminium or stainless steel)
  • Camlock Type E (dust cap) to protect the coupling in transit
  • EPDM seals for Camlock couplings (low cost — saves significant time)

10. Stainless Steel Hatch Bolts and Nuts

Why it matters? Hatch cover fasteners in A2-70 or A4-80 stainless steel corrode slowly — but faster in the presence of aggressive cargoes such as soda ash or salts. A seized bolt at a TDT inspection delays the entire process.

What to order:

  • M10×30 A2-70 stainless (circular hatch DN400–DN500) — 20 per pack
  • M12×35 A2-70 (larger hatches) — 20 per pack
  • Stainless steel nuts and spring washers

How to Order Spare Parts from PHS Magnum — Step by Step

Information Required to Place an Order

To identify the correct part, please provide the following:

  1. Trailer model: SF or SK series (e.g. SF 2755, SK 2760 CAL — from the identification plate)
  2. Year of manufacture (from the plate or registration documents)
  3. Serial number (important — Spitzer revised specifications across production runs)
  4. Part name or catalogue number — if known; if not, describe the fault and we will identify the correct part
  5. Quantity required

Where to Find the Serial Number

The Spitzer identification plate is located on the left-hand side of the tank, near the front support leg or main frame. The model number follows the format SF 27xx (non-tipping) or SK 27xx CAL (tipping), along with the serial/VIN number.

Spare Parts and Operating Costs — What Can You Save?

A well-planned parts buffer has a direct impact on costs:

  • A trailer sitting idle for one day waiting for a DN80 pressure hose means a full day of lost freight revenue
  • The cost of a DN80 hose from stock is a fraction of a single day’s downtime cost
  • Saving: almost the entire cost of the downtime, recovered in one intervention

For a company running 10 trailers, just two such situations per year can recover a substantial portion of the investment in a standard parts buffer. Typical payback period: 1–2 years. Ask for a quote on assembling your buffer stock: +48 602 716 551.
