Hose Compartment Covers and Blanking Caps for Spitzer SF/SK Silo Semi-Trailers
The hose compartment is a recessed locker integrated into the chassis frame of Spitzer aluminium silo semi-trailers in the SF and SK series. It stores the pneumatic hoses and discharge pipes required for bulk material unloading at the destination. The compartment opening is closed with a cover or blanking cap, which holds the pipes securely in place during transit and protects the interior from dust, water and road contamination. Covers and blanking caps are therefore bodywork components associated with the carriage of ancillary equipment — they are not part of the pneumatic discharge circuit itself.

Common Issues in Service
In day-to-day operation, the most common problem is a cracked or lost compartment cover after years of use in road conditions. An exposed compartment opening risks the pipes falling out during transit and allows road grime and moisture to contaminate the stored hoses. A second typical situation is a damaged or loose container bracket, causing the hose container to sit unsecured on the trailer frame.
A missing or damaged cover is selected by compartment diameter (DN160 or DN200) and number of pipes. When replacing bracket fittings and containers, it is worth establishing the build type (Feldbinder or Spitzer) at the outset so the new component aligns with existing mounting points.
A third situation encountered in service is progressive cracking of the blanking cap material due to UV exposure and temperature cycling — the part becomes brittle over time and eventually fails to seat in the compartment opening. Replacing a blanking cap before it disintegrates completely is considerably easier than removing broken fragments from the socket. At the same time, it is worth checking the condition of the compartment opening itself and the bracket fittings, to ensure the new cover or container seats securely and the same failure does not recur.
