Spitzer silo trailer service – 30 years of experience

PHS Magnum has been servicing Spitzer silo trailers for over 30 years from our workshop in Chorula, Opole region — 4 km from the A4 motorway and 180 km from the German border. ISO 9001:2015 certified.

We service all Spitzer models: SF (aluminium, single-axle and tridem), SK (steel, cement and lime), and older models no longer in production but still in daily use across DACH fleets.

Pneumatic discharge system

The pneumatic discharge system is the most failure-prone component on any Spitzer trailer. We inspect and service:

  • Aeration pads — pressure test at 1.5 bar, visual inspection for porosity, blockage and fabric delamination. Polyester/polyamide pads replaced every 12–18 months; silicone food-grade pads every 24 months
  • Pressure collector manifold — joint tightness, corrosion at flanges
  • Discharge valves DN80–DN125 — operation smoothness, 1.5 bar seal test, lubrication of sliding surfaces
  • Flexible hoses and Camlock fittings (Type C/D/E) — outer sheath cracking, locking arm wear, O-ring condition
  • Pressure relief valves — correct opening pressure verified (typically 2.2 bar), documented

Dome hatches and seals

Dome hatch seal failure causes product contamination and fails the TDT pressure test.

After any seal replacement we perform a full pressure test: 1.0 bar for 10 minutes with zero drop tolerance.

Chassis and axles

  • Kingpin wear measurement (ISO 3584 limits)
  • Landing leg lubrication and load test
  • SAF and BPW axle visual inspection, brake pad thickness measurement
  • Air suspension bellows and shock absorber condition
  • Lighting, 7-pin ISO 1185 connector

EBS / ABS systems

We read and clear WABCO and Haldex EBS fault codes, check ABS sensor gaps, and recalibrate brake balance after any axle work. Full compliance test to EU 2015/68 braking standards.

Most common Spitzer trailer faults

  1. Blocked or cracked aeration pads — prevents complete bulk discharge, product left in tank
  2. Worn dome hatch seals — air and moisture ingress, product contamination
  3. Corroded aluminium Camlock fittings — alkali attack from cement and lime residues
  4. Stuck discharge valves — dried product residue between valve and seat
  5. Damaged tank welds — identified during TDT NDT inspection; requires structural repair
