Burgmer and Kraft Butterfly Valves in Spitzer SF/SK Silo Trailers
Alongside the widely used Ebro valves, Spitzer SF and SK aluminium silo trailers are often fitted with butterfly valves from other manufacturers. To keep fleets with mixed valve configurations running, we stock a full range of Burgmer and Kraft butterfly valves together with complete accessories. This means a service technician does not need to convert the discharge system to a single valve standard — the correct valve and parts are selected to match whatever is actually fitted to the trailer.
Our range includes Burgmer valves in the VA/VA metal-seal construction without rubber gaskets — a solution used where sealing without a rubber element is advantageous. We also stock Kraft butterfly valves. Both families are available with a complete set of accessories: seals, handles, discs and bodies, enabling the valve to be rebuilt or serviced rather than replaced in its entirety.
The correct type and size of Burgmer or Kraft valve is determined by the discharge system installed on the individual Spitzer silo trailer. Because these are alternatives to Ebro valves, the choice of valve family depends on the existing fittings in the trailer and the requirements of the application. Detailed technical parameters for individual models are verified on a case-by-case basis.
In practice, it is not always cost-effective to standardise an entire fleet to a single butterfly valve system for Spitzer SF/SK trailers. Vehicles purchased at different times and from different suppliers are often fitted with different valve makes, and replacing entire discharge assemblies purely to unify the manufacturer introduces costs that are technically unjustified. We therefore maintain access to three butterfly valve systems — Ebro, Burgmer and Kraft — allowing us to service each trailer in its current configuration, matching spare parts and accessories to the fitted valve rather than converting the system.
Specifications and Materials
| Manufacturer | Construction | Accessories |
|---|---|---|
| Burgmer | Full range, including VA/VA variant (no rubber gaskets) | Seals, handles, discs, bodies |
| Kraft | Full range | Seals, handles, discs, bodies |
Body construction, mounting configuration and accessories differ between models and brands; detailed technical parameters are therefore matched to the valve already installed on the trailer.
Sizes and Types
Burgmer butterfly valves (including the VA/VA metal-seal variant) and Kraft butterfly valves are available in a full size range with accessories. The nominal bore (DN) and construction type are matched to the valve fitted on the trailer — when enquiring, please state the valve brand and nominal size.
Compatibility with Spitzer SF/SK Silo Trailers
Burgmer and Kraft butterfly valves are selected to match the existing discharge valve fittings on Spitzer SF and SK silo trailers. For fleets with mixed valve configurations, they serve as alternatives to Ebro valves — with a complete set of accessories (seals, handles, discs, bodies) available, the valve can be serviced without full replacement and without converting the discharge system.
The Burgmer VA/VA metal-seal construction without rubber gaskets is chosen where sealing without a rubber element is preferable for a given application. The selection between Burgmer and Kraft families, and the specific nominal size, is determined by what is currently installed on the trailer.
Common Faults in Spitzer Silo Trailers
In service practice — as with other butterfly valves — the most frequent fault is seal wear causing leakage when the disc is closed. For Burgmer VA/VA valves without rubber gaskets, the typical issue is wear of the metal-to-metal sealing surfaces or jamming of the moving element.
The second most common situation is a seized disc or shaft caused by abrasive bulk material deposits, or a damaged handle. In these cases, the appropriate accessories (seals, handles, discs, bodies) from the Burgmer or Kraft range are used to rebuild the valve without replacing the complete unit.
The availability of a full accessory set has considerable practical significance. Rather than replacing an entire valve at each fault, the technician can restore the specific worn component: replace a worn seal, damaged handle, seized disc or corroded body. For Burgmer VA/VA valves without rubber gaskets, service focuses on the metal-to-metal sealing surfaces and the freedom of movement of the closing element, since there is no rubber component subject to typical ageing. This approach — repair rather than full replacement — reduces fleet maintenance costs and minimises vehicle downtime.
