Check Valves in Spitzer SF/SK Silo Trailers
Check valves protect the pneumatic circuit of Spitzer aluminium silo trailers — SF and SK series — against backflow of the medium, whether air or bulk material. In a compressed-air system that fluidises and conveys bulk material during discharge, a correctly functioning check valve safeguards the fittings and maintains stable working pressure. A seized or leaking check valve is a common yet easily overlooked cause of reduced discharge performance.
We stock two fundamental designs selected for Spitzer silo trailers: straight Europa-type check valves and angled (oblique, Y-pattern) check valves. The straight valves — general-purpose, brass bodies with NBR seals — operate up to 100°C. The angled valves, equally versatile, are available in brass or stainless steel with silicone seals, for installations where the line geometry requires a diagonal flow path.
An important addition to the range is the complete repair kit for angled check valves, available in every size. Rather than replacing the entire valve, a Spitzer SF/SK technician can rebuild the working components: the stainless steel spring, the disc (poppet) in stainless steel or brass with silicone seal, and the brass cap. Each element is also available individually, which reduces both repair time and cost.

Sizes and Types
Both the straight Europa-type and angled (Y-pattern) check valves are available with female thread in the standard DN range. Both types share the same size series:

Repair kits for angled valves are available in every size (1" to 3"). The correct size is confirmed against the trailer’s installation.
Compatibility with Spitzer Silo Trailers (SF/SK)
Check valves are matched to the connection diameter and pneumatic layout of Spitzer SF and SK silo trailers. The straight Europa type suits straight-run sections, while the angled Y-pattern is used wherever the installation requires a diagonal routing. Body material (brass or stainless steel) and seal type (NBR or silicone) are selected to match the operating conditions and temperature requirements.
For angled valves, we recommend keeping a repair kit in stock — rebuilding the working components is faster and less expensive than replacing the entire valve, and during a scheduled service it allows full sealing integrity to be restored without dismantling the surrounding fittings.
Common Failures in Spitzer Silo Trailers
In service practice, the most frequent check valve fault is loss of sealing due to wear or hardening of the seal (NBR in straight valves, silicone in angled ones) — the medium begins to bypass the valve, destabilising line pressure. The second common cause is a weakened or corroded spring, preventing the disc from closing properly.
Disc seizure caused by residual bulk material or contamination from the pneumatic circuit, and seat corrosion, are also encountered. In these cases it is usually sufficient to replace the working components from a repair kit — spring, disc with seal, and cap — without replacing the entire valve body.
