Type RV disc check valves (Gestra RK41) protect the pneumatic system of Spitzer SF and SK aluminium silo trailers from backflow, operating on a metal-to-metal principle. Unlike threaded check valves, they are installed in a wafer configuration — clamped between two flanges by the connecting bolts. This is a compact and reliable solution wherever the pneumatic system uses flanged connections.

Common Issues in Spitzer Silo Trailers

The symptom is reduced flow-direction control effectiveness and, in the trailer’s pneumatic system, unstable pressure during discharge. A second common issue is the disc jamming due to deposits of bulk material or contamination from the system, which restricts free movement of the working element.
With wafer installation, uniform bolt torquing on the flanges and the condition of the inter-flange gaskets are critical — uneven clamping causes a leak at the flange interface regardless of the valve’s own condition. During valve replacement, the flange seating faces should be inspected and the valve orientation verified (flow direction). The metal-to-metal construction’s main advantage is the durability of the stainless steel working element — in many cases, restoring full sealing requires only refreshing the NBR seal and checking the spring, without replacing the entire brass body.
