Ebro Butterfly Valves in Spitzer SF/SK Silo Trailers
Ebro butterfly valves are shut-off components in the bulk material flow path of Spitzer aluminium silo trailers, series SF and SK. The rotating disc within the body allows the flow to be opened or closed rapidly, and the choice of seal determines the valve’s application — industrial or food-grade materials. This is a well-established valve type in silo trailer discharge systems, proven in day-to-day operation.
We stock Ebro butterfly valves in two seal variants. The black Perbunan version has an aluminium body, a C35 steel disc and a stainless steel shaft — suitable for bulk material transport of cement, lime, sand, gravel and non-food products. The white Perbunan version has an aluminium body with a V4A stainless steel disc and shaft — designed for PVC granulates and food-grade applications. Both versions are rated to 4 bar working pressure.
Valves are available in a range of body configurations, and standard finishes (DN80, DN100, DN150, DN200) are held in stock. In addition to complete valves, we also supply individual Perbunan seals (white and black) in all sizes — allowing valve integrity to be restored without removing the entire valve from the pipework.

Compatibility with Spitzer Silo Trailers (SF/SK)
Ebro butterfly valves are selected according to the connection diameter (DN80–DN200) and their position in the discharge system of Spitzer SF and SK silo trailers. The choice of seal version is critical: black Perbunan with a C35 steel disc for industrial bulk materials (cement, lime, sand, gravel); white Perbunan with a V4A stainless steel disc and shaft for PVC granulates and food-grade applications.
The availability of multiple body configurations allows the valve to be matched to the specific installation in each trailer. Standard sizes DN80, DN100, DN150 and DN200 cover the typical requirements for Spitzer silo trailer discharge valvework.
Common Faults in Spitzer Silo Trailers
In practice, the most frequent failure mode for a butterfly valve is wear of the Perbunan seal — the disc no longer seats correctly and the valve begins to pass material. Replacing the seal alone (white or black, in the correct size) typically restores a tight shut-off without replacing the entire valve.
The second common issue is a seized disc or shaft caused by abrasive material build-up, and in the C35 steel disc version, corrosion through lack of maintenance. For food-grade and PVC granulate applications, the V4A stainless steel version is inherently more resistant to both problems. Working pressure must not exceed 4 bar.
Selection and Service Considerations for Spitzer SF/SK Silo Trailers
In Spitzer aluminium silo trailers, series SF and SK, Ebro butterfly valves are positioned in the material flow path directly at chamber outlets and bends in the discharge pipework — the points most exposed to the flow of bulk material. The disc rotating within the flow cross-section is continuously washed by the cargo, so the rate of Perbunan seal wear on SF/SK trailers depends primarily on the nature of the goods carried and the frequency of discharge cycles. When selecting a valve for a specific Spitzer trailer, we therefore start by establishing what the vehicle actually carries, since that determines the choice between the black and white versions before we even consider the nominal diameter.
In Spitzer SF/SK service experience, the majority of reports concern valves on routes with frequent cargo changes, where the seal has no time to recover between trips. In these cases we recommend preventive seal replacement on a scheduled-maintenance cycle, treating seals as a consumable item rather than a failure-driven replacement — particularly since the availability of individual Perbunan seals allows integrity to be restored without dismantling the entire valve from the pipework. On SF/SK installations we also check that the valve handle has free travel: tight surroundings can restrict full opening, which on materials prone to bridging can give the appearance of a flow fault rather than a mechanical one.
