Segmented ball valves type ZR in Spitzer SF/SK silo semi-trailers
Segmented ball valves, designated as Spitzer Type ZR (Type 500), are a characteristic component of the pneumatic system fitted to Spitzer aluminium silo semi-trailers in the SF and SK series. They control the flow of compressed air within the pneumatic circuit, and their all-aluminium body and handle are well suited to the operating conditions of bulk material semi-trailers. The segmented design and 16 bar working pressure make them a thoroughly proven component in this class of vehicle.
We stock ZR (Type 500) valves with aluminium body and handle, rated to 16 bar and an operating temperature range of -25°C to +90°C. Standard sizes are 1½ inch and 2 inch, with PTFE and NBR seals held in stock. For direct-order supply we can also source other sizes (e.g. 2½ inch), Viton seals, and a brass ball option where the application demands it.
Complete repair kits for ZR valves are essential for keeping a fleet running — they allow the valve internals to be restored without replacing the entire body. We also stock the Prokosch equivalent, which is fully compatible with the ZR segmented type (Type 500), simplifying the servicing of fleets with mixed valve fitments.

Compatibility with Spitzer semi-trailers (SF/SK)
The ZR (Type 500) segmented valve is a direct match for original Spitzer pneumatic system fittings — it is sized for the air circuits of SF and SK silo semi-trailers. The standard 1½ inch and 2 inch sizes cover the vast majority of requirements; larger bores (e.g. 2½ inch) and alternative seals (Viton) or ball materials (brass) are available via direct order for more demanding applications.
For fleets with mixed fittings, the Prokosch equivalent is compatible with the ZR type (Type 500), allowing a workshop to maintain part consistency across the entire semi-trailer fleet regardless of the original valve supplier.
Common faults on Spitzer silo semi-trailers
In practice, the most frequent fault on ZR segmented valves is seal wear (PTFE/NBR) leading to leakage in the closed position. The second common issue is stiff or seized ball rotation caused by material build-up, contamination, or insufficient maintenance of the aluminium body.
In both cases a complete repair kit is usually sufficient — restoring the valve internals brings back proper sealing and free movement without replacing the whole body. For applications with elevated demands, Viton seals or a brass ball are worth considering.
