Spitzer SF and SK — Aluminium Silo Trailers

Spitzer Silo-Fahrzeugwerke GmbH (Elztal-Dallau, Germany) manufactures silo trailers with aluminium tanks for bulk material transport. The two main families are the SF series (non-tipping, pneumatic-aeration discharge) and the SK CAL series (tipping, hydraulically raised tank). The SF design features a cylindrical aluminium tank with an aeration system (pads), pneumatic discharge via transfer pipes and butterfly valves.

PHS Magnum maintains a spare-parts stock for Spitzer trailers — from standard consumables (seals, pads, filters) to specialist structural components (valve sections, lower manifolds, SK tipping-system elements).

SF and SK Series — Differences and Parts

SF Series (Non-Tipping, approx. 23–63 m³)

Silo trailers with a horizontal tank and pneumatic-aeration discharge up to approx. 2 bar. Used for PE/PP granules, flour, cement, gypsum, and animal feed. Smaller capacities (e.g. SF 2734, approx. 34 m³) are used for heavier materials where payload is the limiting factor; larger units (SF 2755 approx. 55 m³, SF 2763 approx. 63 m³) suit lightweight granules. Aeration pads: EPDM for cement/gypsum (abrasive — faster wear, replacement every 18–24 months under heavy use), FDA silicone for flour and sugar.

SK CAL Series (Tipping, approx. 38–89 m³)

Silo trailers in which the tank is raised hydraulically during discharge. Suited to gravel, sand, sugar, salt, plastic granules, and pellets. In addition to the usual consumables, the SK requires servicing of the hydraulic tipping system (cylinders, hoses, pump).

Elastomer selection for seals depends on the material transported: EPDM for cement, lime, and industrial granules; FDA silicone for food-grade products; Viton/FPM for chemicals and oils; PTFE for the highest chemical and temperature resistance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Partially. Consumable components — hatch seals, aeration pads, butterfly valves — are often interchangeable between series and capacities within the same generation. Structural components such as transfer pipes, lower manifolds, and SK tipping-system parts typically differ in dimensions. When ordering, always provide the trailer model and VIN serial number.

Spitzer uses polyester, polyamide, or FDA-silicone pads. Replacement intervals are every 2–3 years depending on the material being transported: cement and gypsum are more abrasive (shorter service life), while PE/PP granules are less so (longer service life). Premium FDA-silicone pads are suitable for food-grade products such as flour, sugar, and starch. We hold all standard Spitzer sizes in stock.

Butterfly valves (DN100–DN150) fitted to the discharge pipes of Spitzer silo trailers. They control the direction and flow rate of bulk material. Materials: aluminium (standard) or 316L stainless steel (for food-grade and chemical applications). The most common faults are seal wear (EPDM/PTFE replacement every 12–24 months), corrosion from lack of maintenance, and jamming caused by dried residual material.

Yes, in full range. Spitzer hatch seals are available in circular (standard top hatch) and oval configurations for certain layouts. Materials: EPDM (cement, industrial granules), FDA silicone (food-grade), Viton/FPM (aggressive chemicals), and PTFE (highest chemical resistance). Every seal comes with a material certificate.

Yes. Courier delivery throughout the EU; transit time 2–4 working days. EU VAT invoice included. Full documentation supplied: material certificate and pro-forma invoice for export. We work regularly with DACH haulage companies — German-speaking account management is available for larger orders.

We source genuine Spitzer parts (from the factory in Elztal-Dallau, Germany) for customers on request. Lead time: 7–14 working days for most lines, up to 4 weeks for non-standard items. We also stock certified high-quality alternatives from German and Polish OEM manufacturers — available immediately. The choice between genuine and alternative parts depends on the customer's requirements (fleet warranty, factory contracts).

Two main families: the SF series (non-tipping, horizontal tank, pneumatic-aeration discharge, approx. 23–63 m³) and the SK CAL series (tipping, hydraulically raised tank, approx. 38–89 m³). PHS Magnum services both types, including older models from the 1990s.

The simplest way is by how it discharges. On the SF series the tank is fixed (horizontal) and material is expelled pneumatically assisted by pad aeration. On the SK CAL series the tank is raised hydraulically and empties by gravity. The SK also has a dedicated hydraulic tipping system (cylinders, pump). If in doubt, provide the model and VIN serial number and we will identify the correct parts.

Hatch and flange seals plus valve O-rings are consumables typically replaced every 12–24 months depending on operating intensity and the material carried. EPDM aeration pads wear faster with cement and gypsum (abrasive materials) — roughly 18–24 months under heavy use — while pads used with PE/PP granules last longer. Food-grade applications require FDA-silicone pads.

A photo helps, but a reliable identification requires the trailer model and serial number plus the component dimensions (e.g. valve DN, hatch diameter/type). For valves and seals the material being transported is also important, as it determines the correct elastomer (EPDM, FDA silicone, Viton, PTFE). Part selection guidance and valve replacement service are described in the [Spitzer discharge valve service](/en/service/discharge-valves/) section.
